It is important that an adult brush their child's teeth until he or she has the skills to do it by themselves. If your child can not tie their own shoes, they are probably not ready to brush their teeth on their own.  Dr. Steyer recommends that all parents continue to supervise children while brushing  and flossing up to the age of 8.
